Measuring

For the past week we have been learning a lot about measuring. We began by finding out why non-standard measurement doesn't work (we measured a variety of items in our room using our own "feet"). We found that our measurements were all different and that if we had to make a bed for queen who liked to wear her crown to bed (ask your child what that's about) it may be too big or too small. We then moved to using a standard foot (literally) as you can see the 2 students using our feet to measure the size of our walkway on the floor. We then moved to talking about inches and how to measure accurately. We then measured items around our room using rulers and tape measures. As a culminating activity, students used an app called, Measure Length, to practice their skills in a different way.

  1. Great to see you working so hard Mrs Malchow's class. We are still on our summer holidays. I have been in to school to start getting ready for the new year but all the children are still on holiday. The weather in New Zealand has been horrible. Very wet and windy. We live near the beach and usually would be spending our holidays swimming and enjoying the sunshine but not this year. Keep up the good work from Mrs Foster
