iPads and IPICK

We are learning about picking "Just right" books as we prepare to go book shopping again this week. This is a video that we are using to help us learn what each letter of the acronym IPICK means.

As I mentioned in an earlier post we are beginning to use our iPads during our calendar time. We are still doing our calendar routine on the SMARTboard together but with each student having access to an iPad, we have been able to take the same pages we use on the SMARTboard and put them on our iPads so that each student is able to participate individually. We have put these two images in an app called, DoodlecastPro which acts like a whiteboard. In addition to being able to write on these images, students also have the ability to record their voice on this app.

At the end of the month, students will use the audio feature to share what they know about our October weather graph (which weather we've had the most of, comparing one type of weather to another, etc). This feature allows all students to share their learning despite their reading/writing abilities. I look forward to being able to share this learning with you. Hopefully by the end of this month we will be ready to send our learning to you via email. Your child has learned many things over the last month about using the iPad as a tool including how to take and import pictures into an app, how to save a file, how to record their voice, how to access saved projects and so much more. Mr. Pierre, our music teacher, made the comment to me the other day at how impressed he was with our technology skills as he did a technology project with the kiddos recently and not a one got flustered by what he asked them to do.
