3D Shape Hunt

Over the past week in math we have been learning about polygons and 3D shapes. We learned that polygons have: straight sides, corners, and all of the sides touch (no open gaps). Have your child show you how we remember these 3 characteristics by saying to them, "Polygons have... straight sides (they should put both hands up), corners (they should bring their hands together to show a corner), and touch (they should wiggle their fingers together)

We have also been learning about 3D shapes including: cylinders, spheres, cubes, rectangular prisms, cones, and pyramids. Today students worked with partners to go on a 3D shape hunt around our classroom. Students were to find and photograph real life 3D objects. It was amazing to see the variety of items that everyone found that fit the characteristics of our shapes. We will now be viewing our pictures to discuss the items that we found.
