Skype and Congas = COOL!

I almost forgot to mention that on Friday, we Skyped (made a video to video call) to our 1st grade buddies in Mrs. Wood's class in Hampton, VA!! If we could have bottled the excitement and energy in the room we could have powered our iTouches for a day. We have been waiting patiently all month to make this connection and it was well worth the wait. We have been checking and graphing the weather in Hampto, VA each morning as part of our calendar routine and have been comparing it to our weather. Although similar as far as the type of weather (sunny, cloudy, etc...) we have found that their temperatures are usually 20-30 degrees warmer than us.
We found out a lot about the kiddos in Hampton and hope to find out more over the course of the year. One of the things we learned was that they only get snow once in awhile. They were in disbelief with all of our snow and asked if we could send some their way. You should have heard all of the ooohs and aaahs as we pointed the webcam out the window.

Concentrating on playing the congas

On another technology note, we are embedding our iPod Touches into music class! Mr. Pierre and I are collaborating to bring an iEnemble to this year's Christmas concert. Students are learning and practicing how to use several instrument apps on the iTouches and iPads. Today kiddos got the chance to work with these apps and to try-out for an electronic part. More info and pics to come as the project starts to take shape. Hopefully you will be able to join us for the Glenbrook Christmas concert to enjoy it all for yourself as well!
