Word Work

We are continuing to work on building our stamina for our Daily 5 stations:

  • Read to Self,
  • Work on Writing
  • Listen to Reading
  • Word Work
  • Read to Someone
During these literacy-based activities, students work independently on a variety of skills. While students are engaged in the these activities, I will work with small groups and individuals on reading. This is an integral part of our day and one in which "going slow" at the beginning allows us to move faster later as everyone knows the expectations.

Can you figure out which words we built?
Let us know in the comments. :-)
Being a word detective. Looking for N words.
This week and last, we worked on learning about and building our stamina in Word Work and Listen to Reading.  During word work time, students are able to use a variety of tools to help them practice our sight words. They can build words with popsicle sticks, playdough, bingo dauber, bumpy grids and more. They are also able to be word detectives and take on various literacy-based cases. This week the option is to search the room for words that start with the same letter as your name. As the year progresses it may be searching for nouns, finding rhyming words or word families, and many more.  This is a very hands-on station and one of the kiddos' favorites.
Bingo daubers- always a favorite.

Stamping words

Playdough words are fun too!
