Can YOU talk tech?

We've been working hard on stretching words like bubble gum, leaving spaces between our words, writing tally marks, and counting on a number grid but did you know that we have also been learning how to talk tech?
Over the past couple of weeks I have been working with the kiddos to use "tech vocabulary" when we are in the computer lab. We have been using tech words such as: desktop, icons, folders, drives, maximize, and X out. We've also learned how to navigate through multiple steps to get to my special links folder on our network. Ask your child to sing our song...it goes like this: "My computer, P drive, GB, Malchow..."

Today in the lab we embedded one of our math targets, How to count up on a number grid, into our computer time by playing a game called Snakes and Ladders. Click on the link above to try it out at home.
We worked in partnerships today to play which helped us to also use our social skills to work through problems and dilemnas. The groups did a great job and seemed to enjoy the learning.

  1. Terrific job first graders. Computers are SO important these days and much of my work and homework is done on them. It's nice to know you're learning some of the shortcuts too. There are a lot, but once you get the hang of them, they can really make things fun and easy on the computer. I was also glad to read that you worked so well in partner groups! You know how proud I am of the kind and wonderful students we have here at Glenbrook and I want to thank all of you for helping to make our school so great each day!!! :-)
