The Football Mystery
We have been learning about balls and ramps. We have a big question and need your help. We learned that balls are sphere-shaped and round and that they sometimes bounce but they don't have to.
So we are wondering,
"Is a football a ball?"
Please leave us a comment and tell us your opinion. Thank you!
Great question! Based on your definition I would have to say no, a football is not a ball. However, I wonder what the inside of a football looks like? Maybe there is a ball inside a football.
ReplyDeleteThe football is an inflated ball. So yes the girls at GI Assc. thinks it is a ball.......

I know that a football is definitely not "round" like a baseball or golf ball but it is sort of an exception to the rule. A football's shape in scientifc terms is called a "prolate spheroid". Because it is a sphere, it is a ball. Did you know that one of Jupiter's moons is actually shaped just like a football?
ReplyDeleteI asked the other 3 people that I work with and we all agree it a ball. A funny looking ball but it bounces.
ReplyDeleteBalls are generally a type of sphere. Not all spheres are perfectly round, and a football definitely falls into that category. I bet the Green Bay Packers would all agree it is a ball, and I'm not going to argue with BJ Raji!
ReplyDeleteLet's see... you can throw it, catch it, kick it, spin it, bounce it and roll it... Yep, DEFINITELY a ball :)
ReplyDeleteEveryone here at UnitedHealth Group agrees that a football is a ball :)
ReplyDeleteA football wasn't always its funny shape. Originally it was a round ball commonly seen in Soccer until someone broke the rules and carried it. Then the balls shape changed to make it easier to carry. So a football is a ball it just got squished to make it easier to carry. -Kaitlyn's Mom
